This layer was compiled as part of Phase 2 of the Maryland Statewide Addressing Initiative (MSAI).The goal of Phase 2 of MSAI is to collect address point data from local jurisdictions to provide a unified address point database for improved addressing needs and other analytical purposes. Generally speaking, address points are located on primary structures, but point placement variations occur throughout the State. Ownership of the data is retained by each county and the Maryland Department of Technology's (DoIT) Geographic Information Office serves as an aggregator.

Address point data is currently available for the entire state of Maryland with the exception of soutern Prince George's County. This data is intended to be used in the Statewide Geocoding Service, and emergency management operations. This data represents the October 2014 quarterly update. Please note that not all jurisdictions updated their data in July. Please see the "Date" field for the data's currentness.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
Datasets are created and maintained by each respective county. In some instances, counties serve as aggregators for data created by incorporated municipalities.

After loading each county dataset the following tasks were performed:
1) Added FIPS code to Address ID
2) Replaced all hyphens in the street name field with a space.
3) Replaced all apostrophes in the street name with nothing.
4) Uppercased all string attributes
5) Trimmed all string attributes
6) Calculated complete address number
7) Calculated complete street name
8) Calculated complete subaddress (only for records with a complete subaddress type and subaddress ID)
9) Calculate complete landmark
10) Calculated complete address (only for records with a complete address number)
11) Calculated County name, State Name, address direct source, and update data
12) Calculated the latitude and longitude 13) Calculated the United State National Grid Location
14) Addresses with missing zip codes were spatially joined to Maryland Department of Planning’s 2011 zip code data. The output of this process was joined back to the original master database based on the address ID. Missing zip codes were then populated.
